The mandate
What we're looking for We need an operator who has spent about 2–4 years in management consulting (McKinsey, Bain, BCG), investment banking or private equity, followed by 2+ years in a strategy, operations or business operations role at a startup. If you're exceptional, you could fit with less experience; if you have 5+ years, you could also fit. You should be comfortable owning every part of the business that isn't investing, so the investment team can stay fully focused on investing. You should be very fluent with AI tools such as Claude and Claude Code. Bonus points if you've worked in financial services or at an investment firm, or if you have an athletic or competitive background.
Key responsibilities
- Protect the investment team from anything operational. Handle every issue that comes up, whether it's a client problem, a lease renewal, insurance or payroll, and keep it away from the investors.
- Own everything that isn't investing: counterparties, custodians and administrators, vendors and contracts, investor onboarding and due diligence, reporting, compliance workflows, budget, insurance, the office and people operations.
- Work closely with the Head of AI to automate day-to-day operations more and more, and bring in-house work now done by the outsourced operations firm (compliance, IT, bookkeeping, cybersecurity, middle and back office).
- Manage the outsourced sales team (5–6 people), including building them a new CRM with AI coding tools, and help pitch large institutional clients.
- Run large calls with counterparties and push vendors and partners to move fast. This includes negotiating contracts well below list price and getting partners like JP Morgan and Morgan Stanley to keep pace.
- Be the firm's operational glue. Fill out institutional investor forms, manage founder scheduling yourself or through an agent or virtual assistant you hire, and keep every workstream running on time.
- Over time, help organize the investment team's own process and give it more leverage. Grow into a broader leadership role as the firm scales. The role is hands-on and individual contributor for the foreseeable future.
